The Setting: My driver's licence was in my handbag that was stolen last week meaning that until I can go and apply for a new one, at every roadblock I have to produce the handwritten police report detailing the circumstances of my lost licence.
Roadblock Police Officer (upon hearing story of stolen bag): That is terrible! People today in Ghana they don't care. They just want to make money. They will steal rather than earn money. That is why we are here on this road, we are stopping thieves. Just last week a lady went to church and parked her car outside and two boys from Nima stole her car. But we caught them and they were arrested! We are stopping crime.
Me: Well it's good to know you're taking such good care of security.
Police Officer: Yes! If people come to our roadblock and we wave to them to stop and if they don't stop then we fire until they are dead!
Me: Okay...Well have a nice day then.
Police Officer: Wait do you have something to give me? Do you have water for me?
Me: No, sorry. Bye!
